HDMI 2.0 VS 2.1

HDMI 2.1 has the ability to carry more significant numbers of bytes per second (48GB), contrary to HDMI 2.0, which carries only 18GB per second. The HDMI 2.0 also supports a refresh rate of just 4K (3840*2160) @60Hz. However, the HDMI 2.1 offers a much more robust capability. It can hold up to 8K (7680*4320) @60Hz or even 4K@120 Hz.

HDMI 2.0 also lacks the ability to support Dynamic HDR, whereas HDMI 2.1 easily supports this. The Dynamic HDR helps ensure that every motion on-screen is able to carry color gamuts, sharpness, and brightness. The HDMI 2.1 also supports eARC, which is the enhanced Audio Return Channel. As for the HDMI 2.0, it can only support ARC and not the eARC.

With HDMI 2.1, users get to enjoy real 3D games, as it supports ALLM, QMS, QFT, and VRR, which helps in decreasing latency as well as frame tearing for a better and smoother no-lag gaming experience topped with real-time interactive virtual gaming reality.

HDMI Cable Types

Standard HDMI cable: It is perfectly tested and can transmit 720p and 1080i videos. The cables also hold a bandwidth capability of 5Gps. The standard HDMI cables, however, cannot transmit 4K or later resolutions, with HDMI versions 1.0 and 1.2a being native to these cables.

High-speed HDMI cable: It is designed to easily handle different video resolutions, including 4K (30 Hz) and 1080p while providing Deep Color and 3D support. The cable also supports 10Gbps Bandwidth transfer and is optimized for HDMI versions, including 1.3 to 1.4a.

Premium High-speed HDMI cable: It is mostly used in 4K/UltraHD applications and can offer up to 18Gbps Bandwidth transfers. The cable also offers advanced features, including HDR, 4K60, and expanded color features, including the BT.2020. Premium high-speed HDMI cables are optimized for the 2.0/a/b versions.

Ultra-high-speed HDMI cable: This type of HDMI cable can support all of the HDMI 2.1a features. This includes uncompressed 8K@60 and 4K@120 with up to 48Gbps bandwidth. The cable can also present videos in 10K resolutions while achieving up to 240Hz on HDR TVs. The cable’s ability to support HDMI 2.1a means it can work with different HDMI devices.

4 Different Types of HDMI Connector

Standard HDMI (Type A) connector:  This is the most common HDMI connector among all HDMI connectors— a reason why this 19-pin connector is available in a variety of devices including, TV brands, computers, streaming devices, game consoles, and desktop computers.

Mini HDMI (Type C) connector: The Mini HDMI connector features 19-pins. It has the ability to perfectly support all the features supported by the full-sized Standard HDMI connector. However, its smaller in size, but features a more compact form—making it common in portable devices. This includes tablets and DSLR cameras.

Micro HDMI (Type D) connector: This connector unique design is responsible for its size which is almost half compared to the Mini HDMI connector. However, it still poses full functionality just like its larger counterparts. This connector is common in small portable devices, like phones.

Automotive HDMI (Type E) connector: This connector is designed explicitly as an Automotive HDMI cable.
